Work in Progress: DR Bubbles & Anak Ikan - Part 3 - Kids Characters

For the moment, I'm pretty happy with the fish character. No it doesn't have a name yet, and won't be. The book is written in such a way that it allows the reader to give the fish a name :).

I think I can now move to the three children that have roles (talking parts) in the story.

There's a girl named Mimi. I assume she is around 3-4 years old, since she can talk properly, eats fried noodles, and innocently feed noodles to the fish.

Then there's 'Boy', who still carries around his feeding milk bottle. So he should be just below three (even though I've seen some 6 year-old carry those).

And there is Edi, who's able to pick up the small aquarium and shake it, because he thinks the fish likes it! Edi must be somewhat older to have that strength. Five years-old perhaps?

Here's my initial sketches:

These are new characters. The names (Mimi, Boy, Edi) were given by the author. My initial leaning was to re-use the kid characters that have already appeared in the earlier books (it's good practice as children can relate to what they have seen before, and helps marketing-wise too. It's like the Timmy sheep character, being a spin-off from Shaun the Sheep series).

But all my previous characters already have names. Well, their names are unknown to the readers, but they help me to remember :)

It looks like Edi has already appeared as Cak in the DR Bubbles & Baim series. Let's assume Edi is Cak's elder brother :)

And I wonder if Mimi's hair should be like the fried noodles that she loves so much (even her name sounds like noodles already - mee mee).

Or maybe this:

The Making of DR Bubbles & Panda - Part 1

The story of DR Bubbles & Panda was inspired by real pandas. In June 2014, two pandas we loaned by the Chinese government to the Malaysian government in commemorating the two countries’ 40 years of diplomatic ties. The story was written by DR Bubbles himself, sometimes in July 2014. Character Design During the earlier discussions of the title, I started sketching the panda characters. There are two of them - a male and a female named Xing Xing and Liang Liang accordingly. (Pandas cannot live alone, they have live in pair.)  There are so many cute panda versions on the internet, so it’s quite difficult to make this one yours. Our version (for the book) has round circular heads, with big black noses. The black circles around the eyes are a must, as not to confused them with koalas. The black and white colour bands simply followed the normal colour schemes that you see on pandas. I was toying with the idea of giving the female panda a small skirt, but then I thou
